People living in First Nations communities are 10.2 times more likely to die as a result of fire, underscoring the need for increased fire safety education and prevention efforts across Canada.1
According to fire safety experts, having a working smoke alarm in the home remains the number one way to help prevent fire-related deaths. Early warning gives families valuable time to escape and can make a life-saving difference.
Through its Cause for Alarm fire safety education initiative, Kidde continues to work with Indigenous communities to provide fire safety education, resources, and smoke alarms. The program has brought outreach efforts to communities in Manitoba, Montreal, and New Brunswick, with additional visits planned in Saskatoon later this year.
Last year, Kidde donated $500,000 worth of smoke alarms to 15 Indigenous communities. This year, another 16 communities will receive an additional $500,000 in smoke alarms, bringing the total donation to $1 million.
By partnering with Indigenous communities across Canada, these efforts aim to increase awareness, improve home fire safety, and help protect more families from preventable fire tragedies.
