Cause for Alarm Program Expands to Reach More Indigenous Communities Across Canada

Kidde, the National Indigenous Fire Safety Council (NIFSC), and Firefighters Without Borders are entering the second year of their Cause for Alarm program, bringing life-saving smoke alarms and fire safety education to more than 16 Indigenous communities across Canada.

With approximately $500,000 in smoke alarms being distributed in 2026, the initiative has now reached nearly $1 million CAD worth of smoke alarms in total contributions since launching in 2025. The program combines smoke alarm installation with culturally relevant, community-led education to help reduce fire risks and build long-term fire safety capacity in Indigenous communities.

Supported by local fire leaders and logistics partner CN, the program continues to expand its reach, helping create safer homes and stronger communities across the country.
